So Close to the Fun of a Tabletop RPG You Can Taste the Soda and Chips
Almost any adjective I could use to describe how fantastically filled with sparkle pony awesomeness Pillars is would still be an understatement. This game is near perfect for a FRPG. All the familiar classes are there (including my favorite for decades, the Monk) and the feats and skills are excellent. The world is well-textured and feels like a really well designed campaign world. I *love* that you get your stronghold relatively early on. The combats are challenging enough to be entertainingly stressful without feeling like you have to do every single thing perfectly correct to get through a combat.
There’s some minor buggy stuff, mostly crashers when loading a new area but other than that, it is a truly beautiful game and set in a wonderfully wrought world. It is truly one elegant piece of software and well, well, worth your money.
I have been looking for a game that captured those things I miss about doing around-the-table FRPGs and put it in a game. Obsidian has come closer to anyone has to giving me exactly that.
