Great, but it won’t open.

I love the game, it’s Baldurs’ Gate with tweaks, but it won’t open on my OS Maverick mac.

problems

i really like the game but when i am playing it always stop and close, i cant say that the problem comes from my computer cause it have really good graphical card. please fix it.

Do not buy this version. Buy it from Steam.

There is a bug that erases your bonuses, and it cannot be fixed with a patch on the app store version.

POE is a great RPG.

This is an awesome game and I recommend it for anyone who wants to spend 60 - 80 hours in an emersive D&D style RPG. I run it on my macbook without any issues. Here are my specs: 2.9 GHz intel i7, 8 GB DDR3, Intel HD 4000.

I could play for Eternity!

Being a huge fan of the Baldurs Gate games, I have been waiting for a another game to come out that played like it. I love this game. I’ve had no issues with freezing, or the game quitting on me and I run Intel HD3000 on my 2011 Macbook. Hurry up with the expansion please!

Do not buy, it installs an outdated and buggy version!!!

Hi, I made the mistake of purchasing both the game and the expansion pack from the apple store. The version instaleld is outdated and not 2.02 as announced in the app description. Very disappointed!

Great game, attrocious bugs

The game itself is better than great. It deserve every good thing said on it. Still, I have to reload three or more times to simply play it. Bug! Bugs everywhere!

Great game, much nostalgia

This is a fantastic game that plays in the style of the old Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale titles. In fact, it made me so nostalgic that I went and purchased the Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Editions from the app store as well. After playing these games back to back I appreciated Pillars even more, as not only does it have significant graphics updates on the older titles, it also “fixes” much of the annoying tedium of the Baldur’s Gate games (ie; inventory management, path seeking, etc). I’ve played the game on a top-of-the-line 2015 27” iMac with Yosemite/El Capitan and have experienced no bugs or crashes that I can remember. YMMV.

Awesome game but still a few bugs

Have been having a blast with this game for a few days now. And all of a sudden a bug/glitch is placing my party in a random location when i get to a new location preventing me from moving my characters!! plz fix!

not working!

After all those money that I have spent on this game, it crushes even before I get the berries in the first mission! It just frozes after the guy talks and I accept the mission. Please fix this as soon as possible! Using Macbook by the way!

Download Error

I’ve downlaoded the app six times now and continue to get an error message when I try to open it. Waste of money!

Ok Game with certain problems

Even with a 16gb card slot this game was slow when I entered new areas. It gets tedious and frustrating that causes me to lose interest in the game real quick everytime I went into a house, florest, city or dungeon. The game could’ve had more enemies. You run into the same ones. I like that it is an exploring game a lot, but the quests and tasks are really short. To me this was a game that I could play 15-20min a day and walk away. Their just wasn’t anything that shouted out that made this a good RPG. I got 25hrs into the game. I may have pushed that up a little more if I had gone through all the quests and task. I just wanted it to end. All and all if you want a game that can kill extra time this will do. The Storyline is boring and lacks depth.

An OK game, but with some rough edges.

First of all, the combat feels really awkward, don’t know how else to describe it. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve died when critical people walk into my own fireball, or just runn through a bunch of enemies to do something stupid. The end result is that many of the abilities out there are pretty useless because they are almost impossible to use safely, they will almost always do more damage to you than to your enemies. Similarly, the story feels a little disconnected. Lots of things going on, and introducing a lot of lore, but it feels like they are trying to build out too much at once. I find myself running back and forth, from one place to another, often not really sure where I should be or what I should be doing. There are also a lot of encounters I’ve found which are nearly impossibly difficult, again, not a reason to hate a game by itself, but it just adds to the feeling of overall chaos in the story.. Lastly, there are some mechanics that feel like they could be great, but are really just broken. The stronghold is nice, but it’s almost empty, so it always feels like a spooky ghost town. In addition, you earn income based on “turns” which advance when completing quests, but your expenses are based on actual days. As a consequence, once you have the stronghold, you have a race against the clock to finish quests quickly, before your stronghold bankrupts you. This doesn’t seem like the feel they were going for, it’s just a broken mechanic. All told, the game is OK, but I wouldn’t call it great.

Yay

A fantastic game that runs great on a 2 year old MBP. It takes a little more disk space than you’d like, and once you go around the world you probably wish it was larger in scope, but for the price you pay (less than the $50-60 for premium titles), it has enough to do. Some of the skills and spells were buggy early on (I’m glad I didn’t play this in the early releases). And the version cap may be annoying But that’s about all I can say against it.

An Instant Classic

Obsidian hit it out of the park with this one. I am running this on a 5K Retina iMac and have never had so much as a stutter, much less a crash. I’m guessing most crashes are related to the machine folks have purchased (gaming on a Mac Mini? I think you’re getting what you paid for with that one). This is a wonderfully deep and complex story that will leave you wanting more, even after 50+ hours of play time. This game triumphs because it doesn’t try to be more than the sum of its parts. While this might turn some folks off, I knew this one was a winner when I took nearly an hour creating my character and STILL thought I rushed it! So many options with so many far reaching consequences—truly an immersive and expansive experience. Well done, Obsidian! Finally, just want to point out that the crashes others seem to be experiencing arent Apple’s issue, they are a OBSIDIAN issue. As another reviewer noted, patch 1.03 is available on Steam. The reason patch 1.03 isn’t out to Apple yet? BECAUSE OBSIDIAN HASN’T RELEASED IT FOR THE MAC PLATFORM YET. You expose yourself as a lazy whiner when you don’t even understand that the developer releases updates to their games, not the platform. Sheesh!

poor update

I just update the game and found 2 very unpleasent fact, one, the "avios godlike” was missing, aka there are only 4 godlike races instead of 5. Second, my game crash when ever I tried to enter a new area.

Old School Fun

So far the game is great, too early for me to write a detailed review. My only complaint so far is there is no way to adjust the gamma on my 27” iMac (non-retina) and the game is much darker on my screen than on my other computer’s. Update 4-24-2015, the most recent update added graphics controls to set the gamma (among other options). So my one beef with the game is pretty much gone. If you’re a D&D fan this game is for you. It’s old school fun.

An engaging return

Brought into life by a gathering of game industry veterans and a well publicized Kickstarter campaign this new classic embraces everything that can be assembled into this style of game. Offering depth and replay-ability well known to this genre (at least by using a different one of the myriad of characters for each play through). After whittling through quite a bit of the content available, I can confidently say it has lived up to the reputation of its makers. Fans of this genre won’t be disappointed.

JUST AMAZING!!!!!

There just are not words to describe how awesome this game is. I grew up playing all those old D&D games, Baldurs gate, Ice wind dale etc. This game is a very updated version of those. Everything I loved about those old games is here, plus so much more. The character creation is deep, and has some great new classes that are alot of fun to play with. The graphics are stunning! The sound effects and music is unbelievably amazing. The battle system is framilar, yet new at the same time. The flow and feel of the game is so perfect, and so far the story has really got me captivated. Alot of really smart options in this game too, stuff like double speed, to speed up walking around, going to an inn to recruit and add new characters (that you create) all the things you wished were better back in the day are now here. Seriously, if you are on the fence about buying this game, dont wait another minute. If you like those old school Baldurs gate type games you wont be dissapointed and I promise this will be your new favorite. As far as I’m concerned this has set the new standard in turn based rpg games. I hope Obsidian keeps adding to this and makes a whole series out of it. I am actually skipping work tomorrow to sit home and play this game, thats how much I am in love with it. WELL DONE OBSIDIAN

So Close to the Fun of a Tabletop RPG You Can Taste the Soda and Chips

Almost any adjective I could use to describe how fantastically filled with sparkle pony awesomeness Pillars is would still be an understatement. This game is near perfect for a FRPG. All the familiar classes are there (including my favorite for decades, the Monk) and the feats and skills are excellent. The world is well-textured and feels like a really well designed campaign world. I *love* that you get your stronghold relatively early on. The combats are challenging enough to be entertainingly stressful without feeling like you have to do every single thing perfectly correct to get through a combat. There’s some minor buggy stuff, mostly crashers when loading a new area but other than that, it is a truly beautiful game and set in a wonderfully wrought world. It is truly one elegant piece of software and well, well, worth your money. I have been looking for a game that captured those things I miss about doing around-the-table FRPGs and put it in a game. Obsidian has come closer to anyone has to giving me exactly that.
