Black Screen Issue

As soon as i start this game the whole screen goes black. Music on, mouse is there but black screen is there just teasing me. Might as well be the middle finger insead of the pointer. I can see for a split second using windows button+f. After looking for fixes online apparently the game can run in windowed mode. I deleted and redownloaded this game (7 gigs 2 hours each dl) because after you save the fullscreen settings you cant do it again. Very painful entry into the app store gaming purchase world. Told 3 friends how good this game was before i played it…now they all have it and i’m here like a chump. 2011 Mac mini i5 4 gigs ram

Exceptional game - wonderful RPG!

The vibrant story, voice acting and graphics combine to make this story, and the game mechanics, immersive and fun! I’m having a total blast. The automatic journaling makes it easy to come back after the obligatory absence, but you won’t want to leave. Great quest-tracking while also writing your characters own story (I feel like I’m reading the story that I’m writing). Awesome.

Do not use with HDMI monitor

Black screen on startup. Can’t paly at all.

Crashes

I was so looking forward to playing this game. Too bad it does not start up without crashing right off the bat. This is on the latest 15” MBP with all specs maxed out. Should not be a hardware issue.

Does Not Load with latest MBP 15"

This game does not load on my latest MBP 15”. Purchased this prior to the latest patch and was hoping the patch would fix this. It does not. Unfortunately, I cannot play this game. :(

Editor”s Choice? Can’t trust the Editor.

After update the game crashes on start up. Fix it please. I played the game for 2 days just fine. Problem was after an update.

Can’t get past opening scene

The app locks up immediately after the first dialog screen. Definitely not ready for prime time...

Really disappointed the update screwed the game

I was loving this game until the most recent update. Now I only have one option for screen resolution and it doesn’t fit my screen at all, and whenever I try to save the game, it crashes. I can’t play it anymore and I’m really missing it. Please fix these issues soon!

Very Nice!

I have been playing it for several days now with no problems on a MBP/w/retina. Game plays smoothly and is wonderfully constructed. I recently upgraded to the El Capitan beta and the game works flawlessly with it also. Very pleased!

This is a great game with technical flaws

On a MacBook Retina this game only plays on a resolution that doesn’t allow you to see all your inventory. It’s possible to play, but it’s difficult. Please fix this as soon as possible. I recommend you don’t buy this until they update this issue.

Really Fun Game!!

If you loved the Baldur’s Gate games and Icewind Dale series, you will appreciate this game. Since it isn’t Dungeons & Dragons, it has its own rule system that takes a bit of getting used to but it is still fun. Some things in the game are intuitve, others, not so much. I definately suggest starting out on the easy setting with hints enabled to get going. Love the game, hope expansions are planned as it really is loads of fun.

Crash City

The game is very interesting and equal to the Baldur’s Gate series, but on my MacBook Air it crashes almost every time you change locations. Not sure if it is a memory issue or a graphics card issue, but it spoils the fun. MacBook Air running 10.10.5, Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB.

A victim of its own complexity; up date

Apologies for not being more timely in this up date. To correct the oblique line and the black boxes which appeared over the Guilded Vale background go to options, then graphics, then move the graphics quality slide to the left, i.e. decrease quality and the boxes and line vanish. As far as any visual change in the quality of the background or characters there is none, or so little that the eye cannot pick it up. This is a truly wonderful game, but it has a definite learning curve. Keep at it, do not get frustrated and you will have many fun hours. Odd how games which have 1/3 the GB have all positive reviews and Pillars is always " A great game, BUT….". Perhaps there is just too much going on at once for it to play well. No question, the backgrounds, characters, options, all top notch. The glitches seem to be in the mechanics. Here is a strange one. Once in Guilded Vale there is a fine white line that crosses the screen from upper left to lower right with multiple black dots on either side of it. It remains fixed on the screen while the game passes "under" it with apparently no change in the game. This appears after the first trip to the mill. Have deleted and re-downloaded twice thinking that this was a an error from my router or some-such, but it remain in place. Has this happened to anyone else and how did you fix it? Otherwise it plays as well as others have indicated. Wonderful game which seems to be having a few growth pains.

Not bad but...

Where is the DLC? If this is another example of DLC and add-ons not appearing for the App Store version, I will NEVER buy another Store game ever. I feel dumb not having bought this on Steam already...

Updates? Expansion Packs?

This is easily the best RPG I have played in maybe forever. The storyline is extremely creative, the quests, side-quests and assorted tasks are virtually endless. It provides hours, days, if not months of challenging gameplay. My only complaint, and this is a big one, is that it does not provide for the latest expansion packs from the original developer, Paradox Interactive; ergo the 3 stars. I purchased this game from Macplay via the App Store because I’m not a big fan of Steam. And, Macplay has indicated that they are planning to offer in-app purchases so the the game can be expanded. But, so far no White March pack. Hopefully, that will be corrected soon. If that happens I will be only to give this game the 5 stars it truly deserves.

A solid game, but does not meet expectations

Based upon the kickstarter support for this game you might expect that this game would be a genre defining epic role playing game, or at least be far superior to the now decades old titles upon which the genre was built. It is neither. What you get is a solid RPG experience which carries the same enjoyment of the typical game, unfortunately this includes both the positive such as an expansive world to explore and the negatives such as horrible pathfinding. The developers tried to generate a new game system with this game, paralleling the familiar D&D format but presumably different enough to distinguish itself. In my opinion the new system does not distinguish itself enough from the D&D format, and the aspects that are appreciably different tend to be broken. Has it been 15 years since the Baldur’s gate series was released? Those two games were the high water mark. Though it is unfair to compare directly, it is somewhat saddening that a decade and a half later we cannot match let alone exceed those games. The story writing is fairly good for PoE, but there is a clear emphais on using unusual words with strange letter combinations to give the impression of a different world rather than to define the allure in a more meaningful way. Gameplay is enjoyable but unremarkable. Visual effects and sounds do not appear to be far improved (if at all) from games like Neverwinter Nights or Baldurs Gate. Pathfinding is actually worse than other games. Some mechanics such as stealth are horribly broken, for instance a stealthed character is immediately visible if any other party member initiates conflict. One could argue that this is a deliberate decision by the developers but it seems unnatural. What makes this game most meaningful is perhaps not what you will get from playing it, but that the developers made a good case that computer RPGs are not dead. In that respect PoE is epic and will hopefully renew interest in developing games in the genre. In all other respects it is solid but lackluster.

Crashes Running OS X El Capitan

Resumed playing after a while away from the game. After closing the game I downloaded and installed OS X El Capitan and now the game will not run at all: freezes at the opening screen (black screen - opening music playing). Is there an update/fix coming soon? Disappointing.

Truly amazing game

I have never played a better RPG! This is truly a work of art. A word of note: If your game is having problems, try tinkering with the graphics settings, that worked for me. I have my graphics quality on a lower setting, but it still looks fantastic.

Great, but has technical problems.

Love the game, would give it 5 stars, but has serious viewport glithches on external monitors (15” Retina MacBook Pro, Thunderbolt Display), full screen mode doesn’t work (black screen). Works fine on native MacBook screen - but that’s really not the setup I want to play in.

Help?

Hi - I spent many happy hours playing the core game and then downloaded the update and the The White March DLC from the app store. After installing I took a quick look around and then saved and exited. The next time I tried to open the game, this message appeared: “PillarsOfEternity is damaged and can’t be opened. Delete “PillarsOfEternity” and download it again from the App Store.” Does this mean that I will have to delete the entire game and lose all of my levelled characters and completed quests? Thanks for any advice.
